Where do the Boulevard Dahlias winter?

As frost approaches our Dahlias require a little “winter spa” treatment. Watch with us to see how we do it. After the first frost we dig up the tubers, let them dry, clean off the soil, trim the stalks, and tuck them into a breathable crate filled with vermiculite to spend the winter in our storage locker.

These beauties are the showstoppers of our Boulevard gardens, offering a breathtaking spectrum of forms, from tight, geometric pompons to explosive, spiky cactus varieties. Their vibrant hues feel almost painterly, transforming any backyard into a living gallery.

Step 1: Dig them out

Step 2: Let them dry

When first out of the ground moist soil is tightly packed between the tubers. Letting them dry out for a day makes it easier to clean them.

Step 3: Clean them

Step 4: Trim the roots

Step 5: Separate the tubers

Step 6: Store them for the winter
